Founded in 2011, California Bilingüe has operated for more than 10 years under the belief that learning a second language is much more than a privilege–it is a responsibility. The United States has the 2nd largest Spanish-speaking population in the world and more than a third of Californians speak Spanish at home. We reject the idea that English, or any language, should stratify society and dominate in every sphere.
Our mission is to revolutionize adult Spanish education in California by guiding students to fluency through relationships and inviting them to take an active role in discovering how to use Spanish for social change.
We envision a future in which Spanish learners play a key role in fostering a culture of bilingualism in California that rejects English dominance and supports Latinx immigrants and their families in maintaining Spanish fluency and connection to their heritage for many generations to come.
Many students come to us after cycling in and out of Spanish study over a matter of years. We are here to stop the cycle. Our immersive approach guarantees that every second you put into your lessons will result in practical and meaningful progress. Rather than jetting off to do an immersion program abroad, we teach our students to grow roots in the Spanish-speaking community that exists, and has existed for hundreds of years, in California.
We are masters of customization, always aiming to provide the highest quality instruction possible. All classes are private lessons where a student works one-on-one with their teacher. Each student entering the program is matched with one of our teachers whose background is most closely aligned with their interests. Each class is tailored to suit your personal and professional goals, combining real-life scenarios with traditional grammar study and enhanced by thought-provoking conversations on culture, history and current events.
Language is not simply made up of nouns and conjunctions. Language embodies people, memory, culture and tradition. As part of our mission to work toward a linguistically inclusive society, we are constantly seeking ways to support the Spanish-speaking community in California. We have partnered with immigrant rights organizations such as Canal Alliance, and are committed to donating 5% of profits to Café Puente, our non-profit offering educational and cultural programming in Sonoma County. In 2022, we launched the Community Impact Scholarship for students who will use their Spanish to provide public services for the Spanish-speaking community and/or to create leadership opportunities for immigrant workers.
You want to become fluent in Spanish? Our success is founded on one core belief: Communication skills are most easily built through relationships, first with your teacher, then with other Spanish speakers in your community. Our students succeed because they are taught to make connections and recognize new opportunities for growth in familiar places. We invite you to join us, to broaden your perspective, and to enter a world of new possibilities.
