Our First Big Community Event!
Café Puente is excited to have hosted its first big community event in our new location! Festival de Banderas celebrates the independence of many Latin American countries. It was a wonderful multicultural experience complete with a salsa class, live music, local vendors, and community resources. Thank you to everyone who came to enjoy the festivities!
As teachers, we find that if the podcast content is not at least 50% comprehensible for a student, they will not be engaged. Consider a young child – if they are not able to passively understand at least half of an adult conversation, they are likely to become frustrated or bored and walk away. Language learners are similar in this regard. It can be tricky to find a stepping stone to begin to engage in real-world Spanish content without the overwhelm.
At Marin Spanish School, we encourage our students to embrace the less is more philosophy when learning new vocabulary. Narrowing their focus helps them cut through the overwhelm to actually expand their vocabulary faster.
Imagine you’re waiting in line at a taco shop, and you hear someone in front of you say “Me das tres tacos por favor.” Pull out your notebook and write it down! They speak Spanish and they just ordered tacos this way. Therefore, this is a way to order tacos.
